The TubaMeisters, a local polka and waltz quartet, are calling all tuba, euphonium and baritone horn players to join them at The Arneson River Theatre on the River Walk for a reinterpretation of traditional Christmas carols and other joyous music.
Get over the embarrassment of having played in the high school band, grab your instrument from the back of the closet and join the fanfare. If you aren’t a musician, stand back and take in all that brass, manned by dozens of 11- to 80-year-olds. The Annual TubaMeister Christmas, now in its 37th year is a family tradition for many participants and audience members. “My two grown sons consider this an event they try to attend each year, even though they no longer live in San Antonio,” Ray Grim of the TubaMeisters said. “I think, for us, it isn’t Christmas without this concert.” Registration: 9:45 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church (502 E. Nueva) Rehearsal:10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church Concert: 12:00 noon, at the Arneson River Theater (on the River Walk) Conducted by: Lee Hipp, Principal Tuba, San Antonio Symphony Orchestra Cost for participants:$5.00 donation, requested Cost for audience: Free Each participant will receive one copy of the music (baritone parts available in both bass and treble clef). Participants should bring a music stand or lyre. A strap may be helpful in holding the instrument. Tuba players may prefer to use a sousaphone, if they have one available. The concert will be performed while standing (If you are unable to stand, please contact us to make special arrangements.). Music is approximately grade 1½-2. Therefore, it is playable by a wide range of skill levels. (Download the music here) For more information please contact Ray Grim ([email protected]) or 210-558-6549. …………………………………………………………………………………………………..
