Art of Noh is a unique exhibit of materials, seldom seen outside Japan, related to Japanese noh theater. The exhibit centers on traditional and contemporary masks by master artisan Hideta Kitazawa: these exquisitely crafted, hand-painted artworks, all used in performance, range from beautiful ko-omote (young woman) masks to terrifying horned hannya (demon) masks.
The exhibit also features a collection of noh mask-making tools and materials showing the process of making a noh mask, a beautiful embroidered kitsuke from a noh costume made by Kyoto firm Sasaki, and a variety of images and rare materials related to noh in performance. Open during normal library hours.
