May 10
After a special dinner with family, treat Mom to a concert of music from the courts of Henry VII and Elizabeth I. Renowned local harpsichord builder, Gerald Self, will present a concert for recorders, lute, harpsichord and virginal on Sunday, May 10, 3:00 p.m. at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church. The concert will be presented by Ensemble Canzona performing on a full consort of Renaissance recorders and will include performances by Dr. Shelbie Simmons (harpsichord and virginal), and lutenist Slobodan Vujisich.
The recorder was a favorite instrument of Henry VIII. In addition to the recorder, Queen Elizabeth I also loved the virginal and the lute. The program will be narrated by Gerald Self who for 29 years was the host of Music Antiqua on KPAC. This promises to be an informative concert featuring beautiful performances of rarely-heard music on accurate reproductions of the instruments from Elizabethan England. The concert is free and open to the public. 0 Reviews
